A few months ago, Kelsey messaged me on Instagram asking two questions: if I’d shoot their maternity photos and if I’d shoot their daughter’s birth.
The first one was a no-brainer yes, because it’s basically what I do all the time—couples! The second one made me hesitate out of pure nervousness. I’d never seen a birth before, let alone photographed one. It was one of those good scary feelings, though.
I didn’t realize how badly I actually did want to shoot the birth until I eagerly awaited her reply after I answered that I would love to, but had never done one before.
She replied, thanked me for my honesty, and asked to move forward with booking. 😝
Oh yeah, and then Kelsey changed into some gorgeous lingerie like a total BA.
And then a couple months later on September 29th around 2 A.M., I got a text from Aaron that Kelsey’s water broke. I’ve got to give it to birth photographers—I think the hardest part of this was being on-call. Never knowing when it’s going to happen, but knowing it could happen at any second. I was so excited yet also relieved when I got that text! I woke up (one of my fears is that I’d miss it while sleeping), I got there in time (with 15 hours to spare), and I was able to capture that day for her.
